Psychological childish obsession at 21: Am I suffering from Peter Pan Syndrome?

I am 21 years old and in my junior year of college. Ever since I was five or six years old, I've had a desire not to grow up. Usually, kids that age look forward to growing up quickly, but not me, and my parents didn't have a second child, so I don't have a younger sibling to share my attention.

When I played house in kindergarten, I always wanted to be the baby, but I changed kindergartens three times, and none of my former classmates wanted me to be the baby; instead, they asked me to play the role of the grandmother.

Then when I started middle school at age 11, I was still as naive as a child, but my classmates were starting to mature, and they called me hypocritical, disgusting, and pretending to be cute.

Then I learned to act mature, and got much better with my classmates in high school and college, and had three or four friends in my class to hang out with who knew I wasn't pretending on purpose.

Now at 21, I still have a special fondness for the children's playgrounds at the mall, and a special envy in my heart. I love to wear pink, fluffy clothes, and Lolita style kind of dress up full of lace lace and bows. I have small feet, so I often wear children's shoes with buckles, and I love stepping into shoes that light up, but I'm afraid to wear them outside.

When I cried by myself, I would wail like a little kid, and I still sounded like a kid when I talked to my mom and dad at home.

I don't know if I'll get better when I graduate and work like this. I only seem to show this side of me around people I'm close to.

Also, I grew up with exceptionally poor language reading comprehension and composition, and couldn't understand expressions like sarcasm and backhandedness.

Honey.

Not wanting to grow up, preferring to stay in childhood, enjoying the feeling of being pampered by parents is actually a thought that many people have had in their hearts. This in itself is not a big problem, as to whether it will develop into the "Peter Pan syndrome", the key depends on the actual action and duration of such thoughts.

"Peter Pan syndrome."

It is also called "Social Dependency Syndrome", which refers to the lack of age-matched courage and commitment of adults, resistance to face competition and pressure in society, always indulging in their own fantasies, habitually relying on others, and avoiding their responsibilities and obligations by "pretending to be young".

Specific manifestations include:

1. Emotional, capricious and difficult to self-control. Once things don't go the way they want, it's easy to lose your temper and not think about the consequences;

2. Dependent on others, poor self-care ability, unable to live independently, always needing others to take care of them;

3. Not daring to take responsibility, such as choosing not to get married or being a bachelor in order to avoid the hard work of raising children;

4、Self-centered, do not know how to take the initiative to care for others, and take the care of others for granted;

5. When encountering difficulties or setbacks in social adaptation, emotions are easily confused.

The formation of the "Peter Pan syndrome" is largely related to the family environment and education. Children who grow up in overprotective families are difficult to change their dependent behavior and are used to letting others take responsibility for them, which has led to the current "giant baby phenomenon".

Life is not a fairy tale, but we can keep the beauty of the fairy tale in our hearts, and more importantly, we must have the courage to create beauty in reality. As long as you don't give up on yourself, strengthen your mental resilience, maintain a positive mindset, and take the initiative to deal with things when they come up, you can maintain clear goals and resilience even if things don't go your way for a while.

Growth takes time and discipline, give yourself the opportunity to reap the wonders of upward mobility. I wish you the best of luck in enjoying the process of growing up.

I'm Dye, a partner willing to grow with you.
